Getting coaching clients with Instagram

Are you on Instagram yet?

With more than 700m people using the photo sharing app – if you’re not on Insta’ already, you’re missing out.

Sure, it’s popular with fashion bloggers and celebrities, but that’s not all it’s good for – you can use it to land coaching clients, too.

This is because the engagement there is crazy – 50 times higher than Facebook in fact.

So, today I want to share some incredible tips that’ll help you turn Instagram into a fantastic client acquisition channel for your coaching business.

Step 1: Improve your bio

This is the bit that everyone will see when they look at your photos – so you need to make it work for you.

Adding a photo and writing a few snappy words about yourself is a given, but there are a couple of other parts which are often overlooked that you should concentrate on.

The single biggest thing you can do is to add a link that will drive traffic to your website or lead generation landing page – I suggest you build a specific ‘freebie’ campaign around it, to help you capture new leads.

Once you’ve had the link up for a while, you should take a look at your analytics to determine how many clicks it’s getting. You can use that information to improve your success by optimizing the copy you’re using and even the freebie you’re offering to prospects.

Because remember, Instagram is not about just collecting followers, you need to work on a way to turn them into coaching clients.

When it comes to the landing page you’re going to send Instagram traffic too, I have some more tips to share:

  • Make sure your landing page is mobile friendly. 99% of people use Instagram on their smartphone – which is way more than even Facebook – so it’s super important to remember.
  • Make sure the headline of your site captures attention. People like benefits. What’s in it for them?
  • Design is important. This is the first time someone will see your brand – make it look good.
  • Use bullet points to break down the text and make it easy to read.
  • Make the freebie you offer so good that people would pay for it. Give your best stuff away for free.

Step 2: Have a great content strategy

On Instagram, content means three things:

  • Photos
  • Videos
  • Captions/Hashtags

Above all else, you want to use your content to trigger an emotion in your audience. Think about how you want them to feel when they see it – motivated? inspired? ready to take action?

The trick here is not just to post photos and videos that your audience are interested in, but to provide value at the same time to promote your coaching business.

If you post content that your audience loves, they’ll share it with friends – helping you to naturally grow your audience.

Remember: Consistency is key! So, be sure to post regularly. Generally speaking, the more you post, the faster your account will grow. It shouldn’t be too tricky for you to post 6-7 times a day once you’ve figured out the kinds of content your audience loves best.

To help you get started, I’ve come up with 6 great content ideas you can use:

  • Quotes
  • photos of you
  • before / after stories / testimonials with your clients
  • amazing experiences with coaching clients
  • show your work area / behind the scenes
  • tips and tricks around the coaching you are doing (i.e. health tips, business tips etc.)

Step 3: Concentrate on the people

It’s important to remember that Instagram (and social media in general) isn’t just a one-way communication tool.

To get the most out of it, you need to concentrate on your audience and take the time to interact with people.

Honestly though – it’s not difficult to do, you just need to focus on a few techniques, like:

  • Search for and use relevant hashtags in your niche.
  • Engage with people in your target audience on competitor / influencer pages.
  • Constantly respond to your community and treat them like gold.
  • Above all, always make sure you’re adding value – don’t just promote.

If you can consistently and authentically master those communication methods, you’ll be well on your way to growing your Instagram audience and landing great new coaching clients, too!
